An absolutely exceptional, true Victorian sorcerers mirror. We have waited decades to find one as good as this!
This is the largest example we have seen at 50cm. It is beyond breathtaking.
This very large 19th century (or earlier) example has beautiful, delicate laurel leaf type etching.
The glass plate is very high quality- it is bevelled at the edge, and heavy. It has withstood time well.
The mirror has eleven convex facets, one central with ten surrounding. Each reflects its own discreet and complete scene.
The original shaped, ebonised mahogany frame perfectly compliments the mirror and is original to it.
Sorcerers mirrors were popular through the 19th century and early 20th century, when interest in the occult was at a peek. They were sometimes used for scrying or to hang in the home, where the distorted image was believed to ward off evil spirits, much like a witches ball.
You will not find better and that is assured. Absolutely mesmerising.

Condition: Where there are specific points to note we will detail these as far as possible but please be aware that all our items have wear commensurate with age and are as seen in the photographs. If you require any specific information please do not hesitate to get in contact. As seen in the images, but not limited to: wear, light scratches and foxing to the plate but nothing that detracts as you can see- in excellent order. The frame may have been repainted over the decades. The frame has a slight warp but it does effect the function or hanging.
