A Regency gilt convex ball and chain eagle mirror

An absolutely exceptional mirror.

A gilded convex mirror with wooden surround, eagle surmount and ball and chain detailing. Wonderfully large size at 62cm diameter (excluding the eagle, just mirror itself!).

Glass convex plate. Wooden frame with gesso detailing. All balls present though some are likely to be replacements.

The magnificent eagle is carved from layered pieces of wood. There is a (good) repair visible from the flat back of the eagle (left to right across the base of the mount).

Excellent Regency style detailing with a chain that runs from the eagle’s beak to a ball which is removable from the surround. The eagle itself screws in place through 2 metal eyes at the apex of the mirror. It can therefore be removed for transport.

The exact age of this mirror is unclear.

A simply wonderful piece of statement size.

Mirror 62cm diameter

Mirror plate 44.5cm diameter

overall depth 7.5cm

Eagle alone 24cm height x 48cm width

Where there are specific points to note we will detail these as far as possible but please be aware that all our items have wear commensurate with age and are as seen in the photographs. If you require any specific information please do not hesitate to get in contact. Please note that the glass has some light foxing and there are some losses to the gesso surround. The eagle has a repair as detailed above, and some balls are likely replacements.
