A large green mercury glass witches ball

A wonderful, rare, true 19th century green witches ball.

This large, early example is exceptionally attractive not only in its size but also in its foxing and wear, and that gorgeous, gothic shaped link chain. We’ve added a modern gold cap just to finish the piece- final image.

These balls were popular through the 19th century and early 20th century, when interest in the occult was at a peek though they have been around for far longer than that. They were hung in the home, where the distorted image was believed to ward off witches and all manner of evil spirits.

You will not find better.
