A very heavy, exceptional quality solid cast iron Britannia table with solid marble top and lower tier. The base is Victorian/Edwardian, but the top we believe is later. No chairs are included.
Very large at 87cm so ample space.
The heavy gauge base has the classic tripod feet, Britannia head and a wonderfully worn patina with hints of green- likely the original paint.
The base is stamped with letters/numbers within each leg but we don’t know the maker.
Britannia tables have an amazing history, and came into use around c.1833-1880 to commemorate the abolition of slavery- such pieces were made by Holdsworth and Co, and T Green amongst other top foundries.
The top is a large, single, heavy piece of nicely veined solid marble. Excellent quality.
Not to be missed.
