A large red Chinese temple chest

A beautiful, old - likely 19th century or earlier - pillar box red Chinese temple chest. Perfect as a console table, or sideboard.

The top is heavily worn and for us, perfectly so.

Wooden construction with a gesso or papier-mâché overlay.

Splendid hand painted floral motifs, and circular roundels depicting longma and rider. Wonderfully scalloped edges.

Internally, there is one dividing shelf.

The lock plates are a replacement and are far newer than the chest itself. These plates unscrew if you wish to alter it.

A simply stunning, large piece, ready to grace any setting.

Dimensions:

All approximate

Condition: Where there are specific points to note we will detail these as far as possible but please be aware that all our items have wear commensurate with age and are as seen in the photographs. If you require any specific information please do not hesitate to get in contact. Please note that the top portion is slightly darker (red-brown) from use than the pillar box red of the front, though this too has aged nicely.
