A Victorian taxidermy leopard rug

A fantastic, early example of a taxidermy leopard rug, unmistakably by top taxidermists Van Ingen & Van Ingen of Mysore, India (note the characteristic snarl and custom made eyes). 

Dating to c.1900 when game hunting was a popular pursuit. 

We have never seen such an excellent example: this piece is in exceptional condition (teeth, claws, tail, very little wear or fur loss, strong colours). This superb example is backed in vibrant red felt. You are unlikely to ever find a better one. 

A simply superb, period piece for any interior.
