A Victorian wicker laundry basket on castors ~ A

We have two of these superb Arthur Craven laundry baskets, which are listed and priced individually.

This is an original, Victorian laundry basket by Arthur Craven, with its original ivorine name plate.

It would have been used by businesses to transfer laundry from service to property.

The basket has a locking bar latch mechanism to stop interference (!) and we have had a new key cut so it is lockable.

The whole basket sits on recessed iron wheels that move well. We love the thick rope handles too.

The basket is bound with leather and skin straps, as well as metal bindings.

The basket is painted with ‘DB Ltd’ and ‘63’ likely referring to the company and round or location number. If DB or 63 mean anything to you, this is a must!

This really looks so handsome and can be used as a laundry basket, or as a coffee table, or simply as stylish storage. It will be a useful treasure for years to come!

Condition: Where there are specific points to note we will detail these as far as possible but please be aware that all our items have wear commensurate with age and are as seen in the photographs. If you require any specific information please do not hesitate to get in contact. As seen in the images, but not limited to: there is dust and dirt between the wicker but nothing a good brush or hoover won’t sort! The basket is slightly warped as seen, likely from being damp and/or stored under pressure though the warp isn’t significant. The leather straps have perished in places but these are not structural. The basket is held together solidly. One locking bar has been sawn off so just one latch.
