A Victorian shipwright's tool chest- ebonised with fitted interior

An exceptional Victorian (or earlier) shipswright’s tool chest. This chest is beautifully made by a craftsman and is stunning to look at, both the exterior and fitted interior!

Ebonised finish with traces of many layers of previous finishes beneath.

Extremely solid, heavyweight cast iron handles. Overall the chest is extremely heavy being made of solid wood.

Raised on wooden planks.

No key but the mechanism is present.

The interior has two large cavity spaces, above which there are 3 dovetailed compartments which slide on a three tier mount: first a lidded box with brass fittings which is divided in two internally, then an open unit again divided in two, and finally a single compartment open unit.

Just the most wonderfully crafted piece which is a joy to behold.

One large cast iron lid hinge has broken where it attaches to the base but it does not effect the function (final image).
