A Regency period library book picker with bamboo shaft

A very rare, wonderful Regency period library book picker with original bamboo shaft.

This quirky piece of library furniture otherwise known as a book grab or book grabber has a brass patent claw mechanism to the end with a handle to the base that works the mechanism into an open and shut position.

The use of bamboo is common for these rare pieces as the hollow section of the wood allowed for the internal mechanism to be threaded through with relative ease during construction.

The mechanism is stamped “patent” and bamboo shaft has a superb patina.

The perfect gift for the bibliophile in your life!
