A Regency gilt convex ball and chain eagle mirror

An absolutely exceptional mirror.

A gilded convex mirror with wooden surround, eagle surmount and ball and chain detailing. Wonderfully large size at 62cm diameter (excluding the eagle, just mirror itself!).

Glass convex plate. Wooden frame with gesso detailing. All balls present though some are likely to be replacements.

The magnificent eagle is carved from layered pieces of wood. There is a (good) repair visible from the flat back of the eagle (left to right across the base of the mount).

Excellent Regency style detailing with a chain that runs from the eagle’s beak to a ball which is removable from the surround. The eagle itself screws in place through 2 metal eyes at the apex of the mirror. It can therefore be removed for transport.

The exact age of this mirror is unclear. 

A simply wonderful piece of statement size.

The eagle has a repair as detailed above, and some balls are likely replacements.
