We know little about this exciting piece, but we know it's very special. Research has led us to look at examples of 17th Century through to 20th Century work, horse and camel saddlery, medieval pieces, jousting saddles and armoury, ceremonial and pageantry tackle, and has taken us on an exotic journey through the work of the Ottoman Empire, Turkish and Asian pieces, the Esterhazy family, Islamic work, and Italian saddlery. It's been fascinating and though we’re not able to say exactly where this falls, it is a beautiful piece that wouldn't be out of place in any of that company.
This stunning wooden saddle is covered in beautifully worn wine-red velvet and brocade. This is then ornately decorated in riveted metalware with lovely verdigris and a super patina. It could be rubbed back/polished if desired. Wooden frame. Removable upper seat back section. Leather/iron straps. The work on this saddle is just stunning. A museum piece that can be yours. It would look stunning displayed, or could be used as occasional seating. The saddle has great proportions- this piece is a scene stealer. You will not find another.
