A print from words depicting Queen Victoria by B Israel dated 1897

An absolutely wonderful, very large (just under 1m!), all original micrographic lithograph print by B Israel from 1897.

This is the same as one that hangs in the V&A and there is more on their website…

‘This very unusual image made up of lines of text describing key events in the life of Queen Victoria is both a picture and a history lesson. It took four years and seven months to complete and consists of 173,000 words. The picture was published to commemorate Queen Victoria's Diamond Jubilee in 1897. It also demonstrates one of the uses that the technique of lithography, so well suited to the reproduction of texts, could be put. The story begins in the top left hand corner of Queen Victoria's hair, before the bonnet.’

This is behind glass, mounted on an archival matte so you can see the raw edges (the original print is laid on canvas) and professionally framed.

The inscription at the base reads: ‘This Portrait of Her Most Gracious Majesty the Queen has taken four years and seven months to execute and describes the history of her life containing 173,000 words. Published to commemorate her Diamond Jubilee. June 22nd 1897.’

An exceptional piece that you won’t see again.
