A leather doctor's Gladstone bag by J W Allen, The Strand, London

A simply gorgeous 19th century leather Gladstone bag by a superb maker: Allen of The Strand, London with assorted contents.

Inside the case, we found a doctor’s medicine measure, leather card case with handwritten Dr Housley visiting cards, all included with the bag, and a number of old bottles. The leather tag also bears Housley’s name and Kings Cross (X) as the destination. The bag is absolutely useable but would also make the most amazing display piece. Such a lovely set.

The interior of the bag is a vibrant red, with the maker’s mark present at the base.

The bag locks and has its key, and the hinges work well. The leather and bag are in good order.

All in all an absolutely wonderful example.
