A late Victorian pedestal desk

A truly gorgeous late Victorian pedestal desk. The proportions are great on this example: it is ample without being too large at 138cm x 69cm.

For us, this piece has the perfect patina with the right amount of age related wear. It’s in great overall condition and structurally it is solid and sound.

All drawers have brass swan handles and bevelled facias which really keep the look simple and handsome.

Each pedestal has three drawers and there are three in the top portion, including a larger central drawer (nine in total). The two bottom drawers on each side are deeper. The top is a simple and stylish black linen.

The rear view is figured, so this desk will look equally good in the middle of a room as it would against a wall. Each pedestal is raised on its original porcelain castors.

There are two pins in the front of the central drawer, and a faint rectangular outline so we believe this may have borne a maker’s name plaque. It really is high quality.

Separates into three pieces for easy transport, making it simple to get into place where access or space may be limited.

A wonderfully attractive and useful piece, looking for its new home.

It will complete any room in which it is placed.

Differences in wood tone but all parts are original- no replacements. Some drawers have knots etc missing to their sides. Wear to the top, especially on the left side.
