A large chalk portrait of Henry Dawson by George Richmond

A rare chance to purchase a masterful chalk and charcoal, original, signed and dated portrait of Colonel Henry Dawson of Dawson Green by English artist George Richmond (1809-1896). Dated 1837.

Richmond studied at the Royal Academy Schools where he met and formed a lifelong friendship with Samuel Palmer. With Edward Calvert and Palmer he formed The Ancients, who painted visionary landscapes in the manner of William Blake. After his marriage in 1831, Richmond concentrated on portraiture and has numerous works at the National Portrait Gallery.

This exceptional piece is beautifully rendered and is of a statement size. A perfect piece for any collection.
