A large cast stone statue of Pandora

A simply stunning, large, beautifully posed statue depicting Pandora, covering herself in her newly discovered modesty with the infamous box at her feet.

This statue is a rare model by the American ‘Universal Statuary Corp’; you are not likely to see another, or a better one, and this example is so nicely weathered. How she came to be in the UK, we may never know!

This piece is wonderfully cast with such crisp detail and is stamped at the back of the base for The Universal Statuary Corp.

The Universal Statuary Corp was a Chicago based firm run by two bothers in 1930s America. They made statues and models, usually in plaster, and were also famous for the work they performed for Sears, Wards and many other big advertising firms for their unique 'Point Of Sale' displays and promotions. As far as our research suggests this statue may have been a rare cast stone example, or have been cast from a plaster mould or statue. A very unusual example. Extremely well done.

She stands 120cm tall. Just perfect.
