A large black lacquered Chinoiserie box

A beautiful, large wooden lacquered box, wonderfully painted with scenes to each surface.

The interior is fitted with a red lacquer tray with nine compartments though we’re unsure of its use (food? A game? Trinkets?).

An unusual thing.
