A 19th Century oil painting on tin of Saint Gerard Majella with memento mori skull

An absolutely exceptional, very large (142cm/56”) original oil painting on tin, beautifully framed.

This huge portrait painting is mesmerising, depicting Saint Gerard Majella with memento mori skull and lilies.

Gerard Majella, C.Ss.R. (April 6, 1726 – October 16, 1755), was an Italian lay brother of the Congregation of the Redeemer, better known as the Redemptorists, who is honoured as a saint by the Catholic Church.

His intercession is sought for children, unborn children, women in childbirth, mothers, expectant mothers, motherhood, the falsely-accused, good confessions, lay brothers and Muro Lucano, Italy.

The portrait bears a beautiful, romantic inscription verso.

Please note: this excellently painted portrait is very heavy, being both framed and on a sheet of tin with a wooden back board.

A most exceptional piece.
