An Ault Pottery faux bamboo stick stand by Christopher Dresser

An absolutely stunning, large, Victorian (though extremely contemporary looking) Ault pottery majolica stick stand.

This rare and exceptional piece has been appraised as likely designed by Christopher Dresser. The only other comparable pieces we can find- and there are none the same as this- are assigned to Dresser, who enjoyed the faux bamboo and Oriental form, and this colourway.

The cylindrical form has relief decoration imitating bamboo, with a tin glaze fading from green to yellow, internally with a gloriously bold cyan/turquoise glaze.

Stamped 'Ault', with studio marks in relief to the bottom.

We cannot find another of these. This is a must-have piece.
