A red Chinese wicker wedding basket

A beautiful, early 20th century Chinese wedding basket (traditionally for gifts and money, a kind of dowry, and also for use in the wedding ceremony- often an auspicious red as this one is!).

The basket is delicately woven, with intricate detailing both in the wicker, the metalwork, and the carved wood.

A very large example with three tiers for excellent storage.

Condition: Where there are specific points to note we will detail these as far as possible but please be aware that all our items have wear commensurate with age and are as seen in the photographs. If you require any specific information please do not hesitate to get in contact. As seen in the images, but not limited to: surface wear and small cracks or losses in the wicker but nothing significant. Structurally strong and sound. Image 11 shows that one of the three vertical handle panels has a different patina/pattern so may be a (very good) replacement or it may be a manufacturing alteration?
