A large taxidermy caribou (reindeer) head by C J Gunston, Quebec, Canada

An absolutely phenomenal, very large caribou head mounted on an oak shield by CJ Gunston of Quebec, Canada (stamped twice verso).

The head is in excellent overall condition.

Gunston is mentioned in several newspaper articles and adverts that can be found online dating to around 1915. It’s amazing to think of this piece’s Edwardian journey over here to the UK.

This head has great provenance having originally been sold in June 1984 by Christie’s. It hails from a substantial East Anglian estate.

A handsome piece for any wall, at home or in a commercial setting. A truly fine example with great history.
