A Harris Lebus rolltop desk

A very handsome ‘HLL’ Harris Lebus, London ‘Entirely English Make’ rolltop desk.

An absolutely beautiful piece, this desk will give a lifetime of service.

Edwardian period. Beautiful lines and curves. Locking tambour top with two keys. Attractive and useful fitted interior with trays, drawers and pigeonholes. Slide out additional surfaces left and right for working in the round. Central wide drawer with 4 drawers in each pedestal- the lower being a deep filing drawer. Back ‘modesty’ board to kneehole. Raised on hidden castors. Lovely original cup handles.

A stylish thing with a wonderful warmth to the wood.

Harris Lebus was a furniture manufacturer and wholesaler based in the East End of London in Tabernacle Street with a factory in Tottenham. The firm supplied stores such as Maple & Co. and are known for their quality and durability.

Condition: Where there are specific points to note we will detail these as far as possible but please be aware that all our items have wear commensurate with age and are as seen in the photographs. If you require any specific information please do not hesitate to get in contact. As seen in the images, but not limited to: plenty of wear to the surface- knocks, marks, fading etc. Repair to the wood at the tip/end of the left pull out surface- sound and doesn’t effect body of the surface or its use. Tambour top solid/reinforced. Top locks well- 2 keys. There is also a locking mechanism to the drawers (a hook that can be engaged to catch the back of each drawer) but we can’t figure out how to work it! All drawers are therefore open/unlocked. Structurally very sound.
