An Anglo-Indian carved canterbury

This exceptionally beautiful stand is so intricately carved with the richest patina. Originally designed to hold the Quran, these were also made in the late 19th century for the colonial market as superb magazine, book or picture stands/racks.

This beautiful stand was made in the Punjab or Kashmir region of India during the late 19th century from intricately carved wood (likely Sheesham).

These types of stands were also imported and retailed by Liberty & Co in the late 19th Century as illustrated in their 1890s catalogues. The carving on this example is particularly fine.

Collection is very welcome though we will post- the item is large and heavy, hence the higher postage.
